F - Freedom

Place taken: Johannesburg

Description: South Africa has seen a troubled history. In the eight hundred years prior to 1994 there were few days that all ‘tribes’ of South Africa were free from the oppression of others. The broken window symbolises the hardship and degradation brought through the times of oppression, it is through this hardship we as a nation stood together to find our Freedom. With one punch of a closed fist into the air, amidst the calls of “Amandla”, we were united under one flag – Freedom!

The flag of our Freedom glows boldly in the sunshine, but let us not forget those who died for our Freedoms, from the Mfecane of Shaka; to the African (Anglo-Boer) War against the British; to the end of Apartheid – our soil runs a deep red with the blood shed for our . . . Freedom! Many say things have not changed, many don’t want them too but All will agree, we are Free.
